FARMIKKO TREE SHEAR:
When features matter,
Farmikko offers professional, versatile tree shear for wood harvesting, which we have designed and manufactured in our own factory in Finland. Depending on the model, our energy grapples can delimb, cut, collect and load.
Our principle is to design and manufacture tree shears that are advanced and reliable. Our advantage is extensive knowledge of hydraulics, which we have used to develop the hydraulic control and movement sequences of the energy grapple to be very precise. It has been one of the keys to our success for many years.
Farmikko tree shears are made of the highest quality materials on the market, such as SSAB’s Hardox steel. We listen to our customers’ experiences and test each of our equipment models ourselves in their proper operating environments, which allows us to guarantee a functionally reliable and durable tree shear collection for our customers.
Our goal is that our tree shear can be installed on any tractor, forest machine, forwarder and truck without making additional hydraulic lines or electrical wiring. Therefore, our tree shear is suitable for both older and newer equipment.

Connect tree shear to different base machines:

The most common machines for the 300 models are forest machines and the largest cranes in tractor equipment.
The most common machines for the 221 models are: Forest machines and forestry cranes over 6.5 meters in tractor equipment
The most common machines for the 201 models are: small forest machines such as Alstor, Kinetic, Usewood, Logbullet, etc., and forest cranes under 6.5 meters in tractor equipment
The requirements for the Farmikko tree shear for the machine are minimal, as additional hydraulics are not required, but it operates with two hydraulic lines.. The required oil flow is at least 20L/min. The recommended oil pressure is 170-210 bar.
Tree shear cutting unit or guillotine:
Farmikko tree shears are designed to cut wood with a guillotine-type cutting unit. This is also known as knife cutting.
The guillotine has two cutting blades that cut into the tree on both sides, making the cutting process powerful and fast. The blades are normally inside the guillotine frame, which protects them from bumps and also allows you to load trees like a normal tree grapple. The cutting blades come out of the housing automatically only when the wood is pressed firmly enough with the grapple jaws or the grapple jaws close completely. Farmikko guillotine cutting is the fastest on the market in relation to cutting capacity. Therefore, the guillotine works quickly and powerfully even with a lower oil flow.
A big advantage in the operation of our cutting unit is that the overlapping knife blades cut even the smallest branch, so that the so-called pulling of root clumps does not occur.
Collector / Multi tree handling
Collector / multi tree handling feature significantly increases the efficiency of wood harvesting.
According to our experience, wood can be harvested up to 2 times more efficiently with a collector unit than without a collector unit. Most of our customers now choose their tree shear equipped with a collector unit.
Collector works with 2 collector jaws, which tightly grip the collected trees in their grip, making the collection precise. The collector jaws move automatically thanks to the hydraulic control inside the grapple, synchronizing with the movements of the grapple and guillotine. The user does not need to make separate control movements to perform the collector functions. Using the collector is effortless and easy because it works automatically.
Tree delimbing
Our tree shears are always equipped with delimb blades, which allow you to delimb branches from the tree trunk. Delimb is done by lifting the grapple up the tree trunk. The delimb blades are located in both grapple jaws and in the tilt frame, allowing the delimb blades to reach all around the tree.
Wireless electric control for the tilt function
Wireless electric control is only for the tilt function. With wireless electric control, the tilt function has been implemented to operate with its own button. According to customers and our own experiences, the electric tilt makes using the tree shear even more efficient. Working with the tree shear works as expected, because there are no wrong movements!
Wireless control makes tilt using precise and, for example, ensures that tilting never occurs at the same time as cutting wood, because the increase in the system’s hydraulic pressure does not affect the tilt function.
Setting up wireless electric control is easy. A transmitter/micro switch is brought into the machine’s cabin. In its simplest form, the micro switch is attached to the joystick with tape, for example, from where it is easy to use.
The tilt is driven down/up by using the hydraulics’ close/open function and at the same time pressing the micro switch. The tree shear contains an (electric) receiver + battery, which control the tilt function in the tree shear. It is important to note that there is no need to install electrical cables along the boom to the grab.
The electric tilt allows a felled trunk to be lifted from a horizontal position to a vertical position using the tilt, which means that only a small space is needed to transport the trees to the pile. The tree trunks to be left are protected from damage, and the crane needs to make smaller movements and the work is faster.
Loading function
The Farmikko tree shear has excellent loading properties, like a normal wood grapple. The cutting blades are always automatically hidden in their housing during loading.
Pressure booster to increase cutting force
We have used a hydraulic pressure booster in our larger 300 and 221 tree shear models. The pressure booster works together with the guillotine and its operation is automatic. The pressure booster allows the installation of a smaller working cylinder in the guillotine cutting unit, which makes cutting faster with smaller trees. On the other hand, when maximum force is needed to cut a tree, the pressure booster increases the hydraulic pressure to the guillotine working cylinder and it enables the cutting of larger and harder trees.
Hydraulic control
Farmikko differs from most tree shear manufacturers in that the movements are mainly implemented with position-sensing valves which means that the device’s valves do not need to be adjusted.
The position-sensing control ensures that the movements always occur one at a time at the right time and that the operation is precise.
The movements are only driven by closing and opening the grapple with hydraulics, just like when using a normal wood grapple. The tree shear internal hydraulic control automatically carries out the movements in the correct order.
How to use, how the tree shear works:
Before cutting, a standing tree can be delimb by moving the grapple along the tree trunk, where the delimb blades in the grapple cut off the branches. After this, bigger grapple jaws take a firm grip on the tree top and the hydraulically operated cutting blades cut the tree cleanly and efficiently. If the grapple is not turned to the loading position at this stage, the collection can be continued as many times as the cutting capacity is sufficient. Trees held in the grapple can be easily transported from even the narrowest of places to piles along the roadway or the trees can be felled directly onto the load on top of the load space.
Take in use / installation:
Our tree shears are suitable for installation on both shaft-type and flange-type rotators. If necessary, we will supply adapter parts for successful installation. Hydraulic connections are installed to the rotator return and pressure hoses, as in a normal log grapple.
The movements of the tree shear are driven by pressing the hydraulic close and open functions in the cabin. The movements operate automatically in a specific order. Even a new user of the tree shear learns quickly the functions of the tree shear.
